National Manufacturing Institute Scotland

The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult network, is a facility where industry, academia and the public sector collaborate on manufacturing research to improve productivity, competitiveness and workforce skills. NMIS is developing a new facility in Renfrewshire including a Digital Factory and Manufacturing Skills Academy, alongside existing specialist centres: the Lightweight Manufacturing Centre, which develops novel lightweight solutions, and the University of Strathclyde's Advanced Forming Research Centre, a centre of excellence in metal forming and forging research. NMIS technology capabilities include near-net-shape manufacture, material behaviour and processing, process modelling, data-driven manufacturing, and product development and innovation support. The Manufacturing Skills Academy also supports individuals looking to build careers in manufacturing. NMIS works with manufacturing businesses of all sizes from Scotland, the wider UK and internationally, providing access to technologies, engineering expertise and a network of industry and academic collaborators, and cites free training opportunities and R&D project engagements with SMEs. NMIS facilities are located within the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland in Renfrewshire, with an additional site in Sheffield.
