Operation Clean Sweep

Industry programme and resources helping plastics manufacturers and handlers prevent pellet, flake and powder loss to the environment.

About this support

Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) is a voluntary international programme, led in the UK by the British Plastics Federation, designed to help companies prevent plastic pellet, flake and powder loss across the plastics supply chain. Signatories commit to taking practical steps to minimise the risk of material escaping from their operations and to continually improve pellet-loss prevention. The programme provides practical tools, guidance and training rather than being a pledge alone, helping businesses identify risks, improve working practices, train employees and measure progress towards zero pellet loss, following a prevent, contain, clean up, review and improve approach. Free CPD-accredited online training (around two hours across nine modules) covers OCS and the PAS 510:2021 framework, risk assessment, operational controls, staff awareness and continuous improvement, with a certificate on completion. A shorter paper-based training option is also available for sites without online access. OCS is relevant to organisations across polymer production, compounding, masterbatch production, plastics manufacturing and conversion, recycling, distribution, warehousing, logistics and transport.

Who it is for

Open to any organisation involved in handling plastic pellets, flakes or powders across the plastics supply chain, including production, compounding, manufacturing, conversion, recycling, distribution, warehousing, logistics and transport; participation is voluntary via signing up as an OCS signatory.

Where it is available

Available UK-wide.
