Support for Manufacturers

Scottish Enterprise delivers the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service (SMAS), which works intensively with manufacturers across Scotland, in all sectors, of all sizes and across the whole manufacturing supply chain. SMAS is staffed by a team of practitioners who are former industrial leaders, each with a minimum of 15 years' manufacturing experience, and its stated role is to support improvements in productivity, culture and behaviours from the shop floor to the boardroom. Engagement usually begins with an Operational Review, which identifies areas of potential improvement across the business and produces a plan for measuring and improving operations and managing capital assets. Businesses can also request an Industry 4.0 Review, a fuller assessment of where the business stands on digital technology adoption and where it needs to get to, giving an aligned approach to considered investment. Improvement projects can be scoped narrowly to resolve an immediate operational issue, or run as a more significant change programme addressing longer-term strategic ambitions. SMAS advisers also connect manufacturers into wider support networks, and help businesses prepare for changes in technology, automation and global supply chains.
